Rudi's Gluten-Free Giveaway in Support of Celiac Awareness Month

If you're already a Rudi's Gluten Free Bakery fan, you probably are well aware of the fact that they have been running their 2nd annual Spread the Bread campaign throughout all of May!  As an allergy mom and a huge fan of Rudi's Gluten Free and Organic Bakeries, I am pleased to be able to offer a Giveaway on their behalf in support of this great cause.

Just this past week, I was lucky enough to receive some samples of Rudi's' Gluten-Free Plain, Fiesta and Spinach Tortillas, Tortilla Fact Sheet.  They are also dairy-free and nut-free, extra bonuses in this household.  They don't mention being egg-free, but I see NO traces of this tricky allergen in their ingredient list.

If you haven't already tried this item out, it's time you do.  My daughter ate them up with some of our new found easily melted, soy-cheese.  I look forward to sharing more details on both of these items in upcoming blogs~

  • a gluten-free cookbook, “Gluten-Free on a Shoestring,” by Nicole Hunn

Raising Allergy Awareness Made Fun with Local and National Support

On Thursday, January 19th, the Stevens Henager College had a health fair at their Boise campus. I was thrilled to be invited to join Kelly Fletcher, our local FAAN representative, at an Allergy Awareness booth.

What a fun and enjoyable way to help raise awareness.  It was made even easier with the support of some national supporters!

First of all, thanks to the national FAAN organization for all of the brochures and wonderful information they sent for us to have available.
Enjoy Life sent many samples which we had a great time handing out.  We had crunchy chocolate chip cookies, crunchy double chocolate chip cookies, and Cocoa Loco Bars, and NOT NUTS  seed and fruit trail mix.  Some people were hesitant to try some of the items so I put them in a box and walked around to all of the booths.  Who can refuse free items?!  The NOT-NUTS trail mix was a HUGE hit!  Seconds were often asked about.

Home Free Treats provided mini vanilla Gluten-Free cookies.  We had some available for sampling at our table! We also had samples from WowButter, a wonderful alternative for peanut butter.

Kelly and I laughed at how how many people commented on 'how good these really are!', referring to all of the samplings available.  I think people are always impressed that allergy~friendly products can truly be so tasty!

We were also pleased to offer coupons from SunButter, and Rudi's Bakery!

Our fun bag giveaway was sponsored by Enjoy Life.  Here are some pics of two of our five winners!  It's great to have winners who can really use and appreciate these items!  Jackie's grandchildren are going to be thrilled and Debra is happy to have some new items to try out in her allergy home too.

Jackie Rule and Kelly Fletcher
Myself, Debra Woodworth and Kelly
All of the bags included additional samples and coupons from ALL of our sponsors along with their company brochures and some business cards from Jake's Gluten-Free Store, Sun Flour Mills and Mad Alex Products.

Thanks to all of our national and local sponsors for helping us to make raising allergy awareness such a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone!!

'THANK YOU' to the Smart Allergy~Friendly Education and A Gift of Miles supporters

On Saturday, November 12th, Kristin Beltaos with A Gift of Miles and I celebrated the completion of our 3rd national telephone workshop for the 2011 calendar year.

As two individuals passionate about allergy awareness and education, little did we realize how willing others would be to share our efforts via linked in, twitter and facebook.

I want to personally thank the support received from many personal and business connections.

A HUGE 'thank you' goes to the local and national companies who supported our efforts through sponsoring giveaways during the 6 weeks prior to the workshop itself.  Enjoy Life even added a large gift giveaway for one of our workshop participants.  All of the following supporters provide allergy~friendly products we both used and/or applaud.

The exposure and success of this workshop is in large part due to the following businesses:
Many of our fans were thrilled to be able to try out products they had never purchased before.  It is with events such as these which help make living with food allergies or any dietary restrictions more enjoyable.

My final, heartfelt 'thank you' goes out to my dear friend and colleague, Kristin Beltaos.  Thanks for not giving up on me after one phone call!  You are an incredible mentor, unfatigueable worker (ie, slave driver!), and constant source of encouragement and support.

Can you imagine the Griswold vacation these two allergy moms and their clan of allergy kids would have together? I can only wish for that much laughter ahead of us!!

We look forward to starting up our series again in the new year!

Until then, remember to LIVE LIFE FULLY and don't let having allergies hold you back.  Enjoy the fun in discovering new products which will make your day to day living easier!

Treasure Valley Thank You!... what a wonderfully supportive community...

'Alleviating allergy fears one classroom at a time' .... I find nothing more satisfying than trying to help others who are newly traveling the journey I have been for years.

It is through the support of local and national businesses which makes raising allergy awareness in the Treasure Valley such a pleasurable and easy thing to do.

Thanks to the Boise CO-OP, Tree City Juice and Smoothie Cafe, the Flatbread Community Pizza and Rudi's Gluten-Free Bakery who all donated allergy~friendly products or coupons for this local Boise event.

On Tuesday, May 24th, I had the pleasure of presenting 'Food Allergies - Resources for Parents' at Saint Alphonsus Family Center in conjunction with their BABY AND ME SUPPORT GROUP.

What a wonderful experience!  This is a weekly, free educational support class for parents with babies up to 12 months old.  Not only did I have some of the regular mothers there, but also present were grandmothers, parents who had older children managing allergies, and even a few restaurant employees trying to learn more about allergies.

An hour went by like 10 minutes!  At the end of the class, I had the opportunity to speak with a few of the mothers who were trying to manage some difficult allergy challenges.  My heart goes out to them in understanding their fears and struggles.

Life-threatening allergies are life-changing.  I hope that with the educational materials and resources I presented, that some of them left with a stronger faith and belief in themselves that they can successfully navigate their allergy challenges and conquer some of their fears.

Thank you to Christina Babin for having me and I hope to return again soon!
