Mrs. Butterworth's LITE Syrup - Our Egg-Free, Dairy-Free & Nut-Free Favorite

I am often surprised at how many products have some form of milk in them.  As we are a dairy-free, egg-free and nut-free product household, lactic acid can be a definite NO-NO in an ingredient list.  Unfortunately, I often find it in syrups.  Since I often don't know EXACTLY from where the lactic acid is derived, there are many products I can't use.  Even a different version of the same brand may not be allergy~friendly.

Mrs. Butterworth's Lite Syrup Review from S.A.F.E.

As much as we enjoy pancakes around here, it is a necessity to have something we ALL can eat.  Here is our current favorite egg-free, dairy-free, nut-free pancake syrup.

Mrs. Butterworth's LITE Reduced Calorie syrup, distributed by Pinnacle Foods Corporation, Cherry Hill, PA.

Ingredients includeWATER, SUGAR SYRUP, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, CELLULOSE GUM, SALT, SODIUM BENZOATE AND SORBIC ACID (PRESERVATIVES), CARAMEL COLOR, PHOSPHORIC ACID, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, CORN SYRUP, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE, MOLASSES, MALTED BARLEY AND CORN SYRUP.

The 'natural' and 'artificial' flavors may be a concern to some.  We have never had any reactions at all in our milk/egg/peanut/tree~free home.  This would have to be a decision every family makes for themselves.

Be sure you buy only the LITE version.  The ORIGINAL and SUGAR FREE versions have LACTIC ACID in them.

I wish Mrs. Butterworth's could come up with a version which was free of high fructose corn syrup, but I am glad to have one everyone can use and enjoy!

Please share any suggestions!
