Thomas' Bagels and Bagel Thins - A National Bagel Option Which is Milk/Egg-Free

We love bagels in our house.  Our favorites came from Einstein Bros. Bagels in Salt Lake City.  They have a large selection of delicious, tender, MILK-FREE bagels!  Search as I have, I can't find anything comparable here in Boise.

However, I have found a national brand that we all enjoy.

Thomas' Bagels and Bagel Thins, distributed by Orograin Bakeries Products, Inc., Horsham, PA

Ingredients includeUNBLEACHED ENRICHED WHEAT FLOUR [(FLOUR, MALTED BARLEY FLOUR, REDUCED IRON, NIACIN, THIAMIN MONONITRATE (VITAMIN B1), RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), FOLIC ACID], WATER, SUGAR, CELLULOSE FIBER, CORNMEAL, YEAST, SALT MONOGLYCERIDES, WHEAT GLUTEN, PRESERVATIVES (CALCIUM PROPIONATE, SORBIC ACID), GUAR GUM, SODIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, SOYBEAN OIL, SOY FLOUR.

Concerned about the 'sodium stearoyl lactylate'?  I did a little research and this is from the FAAN webpage about Milk Allergy Facts:

    Do these ingredients contain milk
They do not contain milk protein and need not be restricted by someone avoiding milk:
         •Calcium lactate
         •Calcium stearoyl lactylate
         •Cocoa butter
         •Cream of tartar
•Lactic acid (however, lactic acid starter culture may contain milk)
         •Oleoresin
         •Sodium lactate
•Sodium stearoyl lactylate (lLITTLE EXTRA PIECE OF MIND HERE)

If you look around, you could even find these bagels at a cheaper price than what you're paying at your local grocery store.  I pay $1.25 a loaf at my favorite discount store.  I'm sure there is one near you too!!
