Nucoa Margarine - A Dairy Alternative for Baking

If you are a butter lover like I was, being told you can no longer use this dairy product can be a bit overwhelming.  Your next challenging task is finding a butter alternative available for general use as well as for baking.

I thought that any margarine would work. I quickly found out that many margarines contain whey or casein. Thank goodness label reading has become second nature.

NUCOA Real Margarine, stick version, distributed by GFA Brands, Inc

NUCOA PACKAGING
The listed ingredients on the packaging are as follows :
NATURAL OIL BLEND (PALM FRUIT AND SOYBEAN OILS), WATER, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% SALT, NATURAL FLAVOR, MONOGLYCERIDES OF VEGETABLE FATTY ACIDS, SOYBEAN LECITHIN, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, BETACAROTENE COLOR, LACTIC ACID, POTASSIUM SORBATE AND CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA TO PROTECT FRESHNESS.

There is a tub version of this product which no longer states that it is milk free.

According to Nucoa's manufacturer, all Nucoa margarine is free of any and all milk.  The lactic acid in Nucoa is derived from corn and all flavors are non-animal as well, thus the reason this product is so highly promoted by vegans nationwide.  The labeling changed due to it's reduction in total fat from 10g to 7g.

Unfortunately, Nucoa is available regionally, being most commonly available in California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Idaho.

I would love to hear about other great butter alternatives available.

    1. It really is great for baking... if you have Earth Balance there, that is my favorite for toasts and items where you don't have it baked in.
